Dear P.S. 184 Families,
It’s B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading) Week! This week we will be celebrating and encouraging the love of READING! We will have a spirit day and special activities for students throughout the week! Students will also have a chance to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair! Be sure to check the schedule for when your child’s class is going. Families will also have an opportunity purchase gift certificates for teachers to buy books for their classroom libraries! Boor Fair Schedule
In order to ensure that students and staff continue to be familiar with the General Response Protocols, we are planning to have a lock down drill this coming week. (We did not have one previously scheduled lock down) Please use the GRP Summary Guide (https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/safe-schools/emergency-readiness) to discuss our responses with your child in advance of this drill.
iReady Sprints – In preparing for the upcoming state exams, all students in grades 3-5 will be participating in and iReady Sprint which requires them to do lessons for a minimum of 30 minutes per week and complete at least five grade-level lessons. This Spring will take place from 2/9/26- 4/13/26.

Thursday, March 5, 2026 – Half Day – Parent Teacher Conferences – staggered dismissal will begin at 11:20am. If you have not done so already, please be sure to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher.
Important Announcements:

HIV lessons – A letter was sent home last week informing all families about the annual mandatory HIV lessons. Our PE teachers will begin teaching lessons in the coming weeks, ensuring that they are student appropriate for all of our students. Please note that there are no opt out lessons.

Breakfast – Doors open for breakfast at 7:40am. All students who come must take a breakfast.

Lateness – Students arriving after 8:15 must be signed in at the main office by an adult. Please be sure your child is in school on time by 8:10am.

Scooter and Bike Safety – ALL children riding scooters and bicycles should wear helmets at all times to ensure their safety. Scooters and bikes should not be ridden on the sidewalk during entry and dismissal.

Traffic Safety – Keep Our Children Safe– PLEASE adhere to all traffic and safety laws. Do not double park. Do not triple park. Do not let your child let your child out in the middle of the street. Please respect our neighbors and do not block driveways.

Outdoor recess – Students will be going out to recess as long as the weather permits. Please ensure that your children are dressed appropriately and wear closed shoes – no slides and no Crocs. Please be sure to send children to school with proper outerwear.

School iPads – If you would like your child to be able to bring their school issued iPad back and forth from home, you must contact Ms. Blanchet and set up a time to fill out a DOE device loan agreement. Please note that this is different than the school loan agreement. Families will be responsible for any damage to the iPad and/or keyboard covers.
