Dear P.S. 184 Families,

This past week our students had the opportunity to participate in an authentic real-life experience – Voting! As part of the Civics for All curriculum, students in grades 1-5 were able to come to our voting area, sign in, receive a ballot, go to a voting booth to make their choice, hand their vote into a ballot box and then receive an “I voted” sticker. Students voted on how we should spend our Participatory Budget money. The choices were to spend the money on Lego coding kits for the computer-based project lab, more recess equipment, or water filters for the water fountain in the cafeteria. The winning choice was…more recess equipment!  Our newly formed recess committee will now get input from their classmates on what we should buy.

Upcoming events:
  • Family Fun Night – Thursday, November 21 from 5-7pm. Come join us for a night of fun and help us to raise money to purchase Lego coding kits for our Computer Based Project Cluster. The night will include arts and crafts, games, prizes, an opportunity to participate in a session with Korea Taekwondo, and exciting raffles. It’s not too late to get tickets!
  • Safety Drills – We are planning on having an evacuation drill this week.
  • Grades PK-2 – Welcoming Wednesday, 12/4. More information to follow
  • Save the date! Winter concert – Friday, 12/6 – Families of students in grades K – 4 are invited to attend our Winter Concert. Mr. Dietmann has been busy preparing our students for this wonderful event. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks.

Important Announcements:

  • Outdoor recess – As the weather gets colder, please be sure to send your children with appropriate outerwear. Consider labeling your child’s jacket/coat on the inside so that it can be returned to them if lost.

  • Lost and Found – The lost and found is located in a bin by the main entrance. If your child has lost anything please have them look in the bin or stop by yourself to look. There are many jackets in there waiting for their owners. Any items not picked up by November 25th will be donated.

  • School iPads – If you would like your child to be able to bring their school issued iPad back and forth from home, you must contact Ms. Agro and set up a time to fill out a DOE device loan agreement. Please note that this is different than the school loan agreement.

  • New Lateness Procedures –  After the doors close at 8:20am, for safety reasons, a parent/guardian must ring the doorbell, come sign in with security and then come to the main office to sign your child into school.

  • Keep Our Children Safe– PLEASE adhere to all traffic and safety laws. Do not double park. Do not triple park. Do not let your child let your child out in the middle of the street. Please respect our neighbors and do not block driveways.

  • Keep our School Yard Clean – Please be sure to keep our school yard clean by throwing all garbage away in the trash cans. We want to make sure the yard is clean and safe for our students to play in.
