Some fun activities to do at home with your child:

  1. Take a walk, go in your yard or look out the window and discuss the signs of spring. Make sure you are with an adult family member when you go outside for a walk.
  2. Plant seeds in potting soil and use a plant pot or plastic cup. If you don’t have plant seeds use lima beens, seeds from fruit or veggies.
  3. Plant care: 1) Pour a small amount of water daily 2) Make sure your plant gets plenty of sunlight. 3) Make a little book and chart daily the growth of your plant from seed to plant (Draw a picture daily to show your results).
  4. Make little books by folding paper in half and you can add more sheets in your book each day and staple them together. Have fun drawing stories in your books.
  5. Build things using recycled materials.
  6. Count things around the home, write the number and clap/jump that many times.
  7. Shape Detective: Search around your home or outside and talk about how you know what shape the object is by it’s attributes.
  8. Help set the table with plates, napkins, forks, etc. Count how many of each you
    need for your family.
  9. Read every night and discuss the story. Ask who, what, where, when, why and how
  10. Create a learning center with your child to play and learn. This month you can create a day care center for babies and use materials from home to make your special center. Or make a veterinarian’s office with little stuff animals and materials to create a dramatic play center.

A Message from the Teachers

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone is healthy and well during this time! We are in a new month and have many things to look forward too. May is the start of the spring season and flowers are starting to bloom and the weather is getting warmer and the days are longer. Please make sure to do your attendance daily and listen to the school announcements, also go to the classwork page and do your daily assignments the best you can each day. If you have any concerns with the remote learning please contact us!

This month our students will be starting unit 9: Babies and will focus on the following topics each week: 1) Human babies need special food and care. 2) Animal babies need special food and care. 3) There are similarities and difference in the ways babies are cared for. 4) All babies grow.

The study of babies has high interest and relevance for children in pre-k, as they may have younger family members or experiences with younger children or babies in their daily lives. The children will have the opportunity to learn about animal babies and their needs and special care along with the similarities and differences in comparison to human babies.

Our May Building Blocks math program (Weeks 26, 27,28 & 29) will focus on the following: 1) To count beyond 10 and recognize numbers before and after. 2) Counting, comparing and ordering. 3) Adding and subtracting objects. 4) Subitizing by instantly recognizing amounts. 5) Measuring objects and comparing sizes. 6) Identify and compose shapes. 7) Extending patterns. Please work with your child at home to reinforce these math objectives that connect with authentic learning.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and participation!
