Weekly Update #27
Dear Parents and Guardians of P.S. 184,
As always, we thank you for your attention and cooperation as we continue to navigate this busy school year and request information from you.
State Exams Update: Earlier this week we shared information about the New York State Exams with our 3rd – 5th grade families. The exams will be administered in the school building. No exams will be given remotely. For this year, parents must express their preference, letting us know whether their child will be taking the tests. The remote families who have opted to take the exam, will receive further instructions on dates, times, and procedures for their children. Please fill out the Google form that was sent to you via email by Monday, April 12th.
Learning Preference: The deadline for remote students to switch back to in-person learning was Friday, April 9th. For the families who selected in person learning, we are awaiting guidelines on welcoming your children back to the building. A town hall and further information will follow with details.
Updated Building Closure Policy: The DOE has released an updated health and safety policy for school building closures. The policy on classrooms remains unchanged. The policy on building closures for multiple cases has been revised. You may read the new policy in the Chancellor’s April 9th, 2021 message to families here: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/about-us/news/chancellor-s-message-for-families
Spring Council Spirit Days: Friday, April 16th, is Spring Into Kindness Day. Please wear bright or pastel colors.
Outdoor Instruction: With the improved weather, in-person students will have an opportunity for outdoor instructional lunch and physical education when possible. Ms. Drauch, our PE and health teacher will be sending home a permission slip required by the DOE for outdoor instruction. In-person students must have permission slips signed and return so that they can go out for PE.
Parent Resources for Science and Physical Education: The following documents offer parent-friendly information and resources about the New York State learning standards for Science and Physical Education to help you support your children in these subjects.
CASA Virtual Program: We are excited to offer the CASA after school arts program to 3rd and 4th graders. This program is made available to us with funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and a CASA grant by Councilman Paul Vallone, providing us with an after school arts program through the Flushing Town Hall. If your child is in 3rd or 4th grade and you are interested, please fill out the Google form that was emailed earlier this week.
Ramadan begins at sundown on Monday, April 12th. We wish a blessed Ramadan to our families who observe the month-long time of fasting, reflection, and community.
