Weekly Update #26
Dear Parents and Guardians of P.S. 184Q ,
We want to thank each of you for the support you provided during this past month with two unexpected school closures and transition to remote learning. We also want to express gratitude to those who attended our open forums addressing the recent rise in Anti-Asian hate crimes and bias. We will continue to work to support all our students and families and ensure that our kindness and equity initiatives, as well our Respect for All and anti-bullying/anti-bias initiatives continue to be implemented.
Learning Preference: Last week the Chancellor announced that students who are currently learning remotely have one more chance to opt into in-person learning. This decision was made following a change in CDC guidelines for social distancing in classrooms. The recommended distance has been reduced from 6 feet to 3 feet. Parents can change their learning preference online at https://www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference or by calling 311. The deadline to submit this request is April 7th.
Pre-K Applications: Children born in 2017 are eligible to apply for Pre-K for the next school year. The deadline to apply is April 7th. Please visit https://www.schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/enroll-grade-by-grade/pre-k for more information. Please note that the mayor recently announced that 3-K is being expanded to all school districts. This program will not be provided at the school level. For a list of 3-K providers, please visit www.myschools.nyc.
Greek Independence Day- This holiday was celebrated this past Thursday but due to COVID the parade was cancelled for a second year in a row. We recognize this important day and wish a Happy Greek Independence Day to the many families who celebrate and honor this day.
NYS Test Guidance– We expect to get more information about the NYS exams when we return form break. As previously stated, remote families will be given an opportunity to come into the building to take the exam. The school will reach out about this. We will continue to share any new information as we receive it.
We wish everyone a joyful and relaxing spring break. This week many of our families will honor the Passover Holiday or Celebrate Easter. We recognize these holidays and wish all our families health and peace during this time. We look forward to seeing everyone on April 5th. Our next weekly update will be on Sunday, April 11th.
