Weekly Update #25
Dear PS 184 Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your attention to the communication and details related to health and safety. We hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the first days of spring this weekend.
Building Closure/Health and Safety: We continue to work with the situation room to report and respond as directed to any positive COVID cases in the school Community. Currently due to the number of positive cases we will be closed for an additional 24 hours on Monday, March 22, 2021 while the investigative process continues. We thank you for your patience during this time and appreciate the support of the community. Please continue to monitor emails and phone calls from the school so that you can continue to keep informed.
NY State Tests: This week we learned that the state is expecting all schools to administer only Day 1 of the NYS ELA and Math exams to in-person students. The Day 2 portion will not count toward the overall score but can be scored at the school level for information for instruction. Exams will NOT be offered remotely. Families of fully remote students in grades 3-5 will be provided with a survey so that they can indicate if they will be sending their children in to take the exams. Schools will be required to create a schedule for this addressing social distancing guidelines. The grade 4 science test will only include Part 1 the written portion of the exam.
Phone notifications: A gentle reminder that at times, the school may need to call parents from one or multiple classes for a health notification or other serious matter, we can only call one parent at a time. If you hear from a friend or neighbor that we are notifying your class, please be aware that we will get to you, and we appreciate your patience while we call each family individually.
Voice Message Communications: You may notice that our voice messages (robo-calls) have a robotic voice at the end of them (text to speech). This feature has been added so that messages can be translated when necessary.
NYC Schools Account: Thank you to all the parents/guardians who completed their new registrations for the www.mystudent.nyc account. PS 184 has reached 99% registration! As a reminder, this is the account where you may view and download your child’s report card, and view past state test scores and attendance information. If you receive a receipt from the Parent Coordinator with instructions to complete your registration, please complete the process as soon as possible; the temporary password will expire after 30 days. If you already have an account, you do not need to do anything.
Opt-in Window Opens: Late Friday the Mayor and the DOE announced that the Opt-In window for in-person learning will open for families of grade Pre-K -5 students this coming week. This announcement was made based on the CDC guidance for schools to maintain social distancing changing from 6 feet to 3 feet. We will be sharing information about this process and what it means for our school community as soon as it is available to us.
