Weekly Update #22
February 28, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we head into a new month, we hope that all our school families are staying safe and healthy. Thank you for your continued collaboration this school year. Please read on for some important updates and reminders.
NYS Testing– Recent media reports indicate that the NYS exams will be administered this year as scheduled. Details on the administration procedures have not yet been released. As I mentioned in a previous email, we strive to ensure that our children are ready for the real world. Part of the real world is standardized testing. Our test sophistication units in ELA will begin in the coming weeks for all grade 3-5 students. We will support the children in being prepared for the exams and encourage all our families to be supportive as well.
School and DOE Devices – At this time many of our in-person learners have devices provided by the school. Due to the still uncertain possibility of a class or school closure we will not be collecting the devices. Children may need them for remote instruction if necessary. They can also use the devices for online programs such as iReady. We want to remind all our families that we do intend to collect any of the devices at the end of this school year. Please ensure that school or DOE devices are kept safe.
Remote Material Distribution – We will be scheduling voluntary pick-up of materials for upcoming units, for remote learners in grade 3-5, this Thursday, March 4, 2021. The schedule is as follows:
Grade 3 – Lunchroom – 12:00 – 12:30
Grade 4 – Gym – 12:30 – 1:00
Grade 5 – Auditorium – 1:00 – 1:30
Remote Family Sessions: The Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Golia will be hosting virtual family engagement sessions for parents/guardians of our remote learning students. The sessions will allow Mrs. Golia to provide updates and support to the remote families, while also getting to know them better and hearing any questions and concerns that they may have. This is also a great opportunity for parents of our remote learners to connect with each other. The sessions will be by grade level, on Fridays throughout the month of March. You will be receiving more information about the schedule and links to join.
Report Cards/Parent Teacher Conferences: Report Cards will be released electronically on Wednesday, March 3rd. No paper report cards will be distributed this school year. You will be able to access your child’s report card by signing into your www.mystudent.nyc account (New York City Schools Account). If you are not sure how to access your account, or you need to set one up, please contact the Parent Coordinator. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday March 4th. This will be a half day for students. Conferences will take place from 12:00 – 2:00 pm and 4:30 – 7:00 pm. All Parent Teacher conferences will be held virtually. Your child’s teacher will provide information on how to schedule your meeting.
Covid-19 Testing Notices: Parents of in-person learners are reminded to check your child’s folders every day for important notices including those related to participation in the Covid-19 testing.
Monthly Calendar: Please check your email and/or your child’s folder for the March school calendar on Monday, March 1st.
Pre-K Applications: Pre-K applications opened on Wednesday, February 24th. Children born in 2017 are eligible for Pre-K for the 2021-2022 school year. You can apply by visiting www.myschools.nyc.
