Weekly Update #6

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week we would like to invite all our students, whether blended or fully remote, to wear their costumes in Celebration of Halloween. Please see details below:

Thursday, October 29th – Group In-Person students may wear costumes to school

Friday, October 30th – Group B In-Person students may wear costumes to school and All Fully Remote students may wear costumes during their live instruction sessions.

In the interest of safety, students should not bring any props or wear costume masks. All students should continue to wear their health and safety face masks as per current CDC guidelines.

RAZ Kids Leveling: This beginning of the year assessment will take the place of F&P leveling. Students will be assigned an activity to complete a leveling task. Please be sure to allow this activity to be completed independently. Recordings of the children reading are analyzed by the teacher to place students on a reading level. The online program provides texts for practice on independent and instructional leveling.

Progress reports and Parent Teacher Conferences: At a recent SLT meeting the decision was made to provide families with a progress report instead of a report card in early November. As in other years, this decision was based on the number of days that students have been in class since the first day of school. Especially with the new and sometimes dual modality of instruction for students, this made the most sense. The communication of current performance in subject areas and work habits is intended to assist parents and guardians in supporting their children in working on areas of focus before the report card is issued in mid-December. November Parent teacher conferences will be remote and information about the schedule will be forthcoming.

PTA Updates: This coming week the PTA has scheduled its first virtual PTA meeting of the school year as well as a virtual election session. Information about these two events have been sent out to our families via email and is also on the school website, ps184q.com. Be sure to stay involved!

Thank you for your continued support during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Anna Dimilta

Principal
