Open school week at P.S184Q will be held the week of November 18, 2019. We look forward to providing parents with an opportunity to visit classrooms and view instruction in action.
Due to scheduled prep periods, trips and other school events, we have created a grade specific schedule of times for this visit.
Monday, Nov. 18th 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Grade 4
Tuesday, Nov. 19th 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Grade 1/Grade 3
Wednesday, Nov. 208h 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Grade 2
Thursday, Nov. 21 9:15 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Grade Pre-K/Grade 5
Friday, Nov. 22 8:30 a.m.–9:30 am Grade K
During your visit you will see our students engaged in authentic, active learning aligned to the standards. Pre-k students will be engaged in center activities and small group instruction. This year Grades K-4 will highlight math instruction during these sessions. In grade 5 you will observe instructional practices in the major curriculum areas beginning with your child’s homeroom teacher’s subject of instruction. This may include Literacy, Math, Science and/or Social Studies. Future sessions will be scheduled for you to view the other subject areas.
The major purpose of your visit is to observe your child learning in the classroom and see classroom practices in action. You will have an opportunity to see your child’s ability to start promptly, to organize material, to listen to and follow instructions, and to work collaboratively with his or her peers. Our goal is to highlight instruction without interrupting the instructional process. Please remember that there will be no individual parent-teacher conferences during these visits and parents should not use this time to converse with one another. Please make arrangements to leave younger children at home as they will distract the students from classroom instruction. Additionally, videotaping or use of the camera is not permitted in the classroom for this visit.
To find out more about the happenings in our classrooms be sure to visit the grade pages on our school website ps184q.com. You can also learn more about school policies and procedures as well as available resources for parents. Also, please note, Parent –teacher conferences will be held on December 12, 2019.
Thank you for working with us to support our efforts to ensure that our children meet the high expectations of the standards that have been set forth by the state and thank you for encouraging your children to committing themselves to their academic lives. With parents as partners, we know that when the time comes our students will be well prepared for middle school and beyond!
We look forward to seeing you during Open School Week, November 18, 2019 – November 22, 2019.
